Naves Eorum Volant, Pontes Ruunt
Their Ships Fly. Their Bridges Fall.
M. Agrippa, qui aedilis Cloacam Maximam navicula perlustravit, classes Americanorum miratur — vias eorum nequaquam.
Agrippa, who as aedile inspected the Great Sewer by boat, marvels at American fleets — and not at all at their roads.
I saw a ship to which flying ships return like birds to a nest: one such vessel can do more than my entire fleet at Actium. I was astonished, I admit it. Then I went ashore and saw a bridge no one had repaired in forty years. Among us, an aedile who tolerated that would never be elected again.
